A River Worth Protecting
Save the Ganges River Dolphin
The Ganges river dolphin is one of the world’s rare freshwater dolphins. Its future is bound to its river habitat.
A Remarkable River Mammal
A life shaped by the Ganges
The Ganges River Dolphin is one of only three freshwater dolphin species remaining, following the extinction of the Yangtze dolphin. Once present in tens of thousands, its numbers have fallen—from an estimated 4,500 in 1982 to around 1,800. Dams, pollution and the depletion of river water all threaten its survival. The dolphin navigates the Ganges’ silty waters using sound; its future is bound to the health of this river habitat.
